When the earthquake hit Haiti in 2008, Jhony decided he wanted to train as an orthopedic surgeon to serve the poor. Though he grew up poor, with six siblings and no mother, he attended university to study chemistry on a government scholarship until the teachers went on strike and the school closed. He then pursued his M.D. at Quisqueya University in Port-au-Prince, serving as student body president, and graduates in December 2020.
Unfortunately, Quisqueya paused in-person classes during the riots in December 2019 and in the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020, so Jhony moved home to Gonaivese, Haiti. While he's finishing his M.D. online, Jhony decided to open a BAM (Business as Missions) store to minister to the people in his area.
